As part of the research, survey and prospecting conducted by GSO there are specific activities dedicated to the archaeological area and the area of the latest wreck. In the archaeological field equipment, acoustic, visual and operational for tracing the presence of relics and artifacts on the bottom or below it, leading to even identify the type and characteristics of the load. The activities of key scientific and historical interest, are carried out with the fundamental acoustic equipment (SSS, SBP, Multi Beam Echo Sounder) and visual (CCTVs) directly from the vessel surface or remote from the vehicle (ROV) on the bottom left under direct control from the surface. Besides the use of acoustic equipment and a thorough visual investigation, GSO active and applies a timely and detailed process of identification of the wreck and its possible load (eg dolia, Amphorae, usw) to allow at least a rough date. In addition, on the same basis of visual and acoustic surveys, will conduct a determination of sedimentological and lithological characteristics of the substrate or soil encompassing. This allows, in addition to determining the environmental and historical parameters, preparing the most appropriate procedure for the recovery of artifacts for which GSO has a capacity of robotic surgery and hyperbaric oxygen in addition to the current excavation techniques (eg sorbonatura, deflation, hydrojetting).addition to the artifacts and relics of historical and archaeological interest (ie prior to World War II), GSO acts on out wrecks most recent position, LOCATION, attitude, causes of the sinking and note items of technical interest and expert opinion.
